The King of Comedy Dolphy at 80 at Meralco Theatre

Incidentally, tomorrow night (July 31), The King of Comedy Dolphy at 80, “a celebration of laughter and drama” (to be aired as special Aug. 3 on ABS-CBN’s Sunday’s Best), will be mounted at the Meralco Theater. Opening the show are singing sensations from different generations and genres: Kuh Ledesma, Bituin Escalante, Toni Gonzaga, Sarah Geronimo, Iya Villania, Christian Bautista, Mark Bautista, Jed Madela and Charice.

Stills of different Dolphy abstracts will be shown accompanied by songs from Sam Milby, Robert Seña, Sheryn Regis and Ronnie Liang.

Charo will offer the celebrator a “touching” message that will make the audience cry like she does on her drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya?

The Goin’ Bulilit kids will do a production number that will highlight Dolphy’s checkered TV career. Chocoleit, Pooh and Vice Ganda will keep the audience in stitches.

Other performers include Ai-Ai de las Alas, Vhong Navarro, Pokwang, Rachelle Ann Go, Richard Poon, Erik Santos, Audie Gemora, Shaina Magdayao, Rayver Cruz, Rodjun Cruz, Tim Espinosa, Thou Reyes, Michael Williams, JM Rodriguez, Roderick Paulate, Archie Alemania and Carmi Martin.

Expected guests: Gloria Romero, Susan Roces, Eddie Gutierrez, Nova Villa, Sharon Cuneta, Maricel Soriano, Vic Sotto and Willie Revillame

A magical night with the ABS-CBN stars

Star Magic celebrated its 16th anniversary in style as it gathered the best and brightest stars of ABS-CBN in a spectacular red-carpet affair held at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel’s grand ballroom last night, June 29. The country’s premiere talent management group held its second Star Magic Ball to commemorate its years of bringing up top notch talent.

Showbiz’s hottest couples were seen on the red carpet like Sam Milby and Anne Curtis, Luis Manzano and Angel Locsin, John Prats and Shaina Magdayao, and Willie Revillame with his non-showbiz date.

Flying solo yet looking equally fabulous in their formal wear were Kristine Hermosa, Bea Alonzo, Rica Peralejo, Roxanne Guinoo, Jake Cuenca, Zanjoe Marudo, and Diether Ocampo just to name a few. Piolo Pascual, who came with mom Amy, cut a stylish figure in elegant Hugo Boss attire. Comedienne Pokwang managed to outshine the other stars with her trademark outlandish outfits complete with a white train worthy of a blushing bride.

The party went into full swing as host Nikki Gil let Richard Poon take center stage to serenade ABS-CBN bigwigs Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III, Charo Santos-Concio, Malou Santos, and former President Freddie Garcia who was also celebrating his birthday that night. This was followed by a romantic medley performed by Piolo, Sam, Richard, and Jed Madela. Saicy Aguila, Arron Villaflor, Gem Ramos, Rodjun Cruz, Tim Espinosa, Princess Ryan, Thou Reyes, Sam Concepcion, Andi Jose, Pokwang, and Sam Milby wowed the guests with a sizzling production number.

Fashion Icon awards were given to Bea, Piolo, Rafael Rosell, and Malaya Lewondowski while thee Sparkling Couple award went to Sam and Anne who were particularly sweet towards each other throughout the ball. Pinoy Big Brother Teen Big Winner Ejay Falcon got lucky again as he won an Asian Cruise for two during the raffle draw exclusively for Star Magic artists.

Afterwards, Piolo presented the collective donation from Star Magic artists for Diether’s KIDS Foundation, which amounted to P300,000. Event sponsor Planet Flip-Flops also donated P200,000 for Bayanijuan, which Piolo turned over to Claudine Barretto (who was escorted by hubby Raymart Santiago) in behalf of Gina Lopez.

To cap off the night, Johnny Manahan gave a short but sweet message which encompassed his overwhelming gratitude to those who continue to support Star Magic and its roster of talents, "I love you all."

ABS-CBN Star Magic 16th anniversary

Sa pagdiriwang ng kanyang 16th year, matinding star-studded extravaganza sa ASAP 08 ang magbubukas ng engrandeng anniversary ce-lebration ng ABS-CBN Star Magic sa May 25 at June 1.

Naghahanda na ang mga artista ng Star Magic para sa mga kakaibang production numbers sa ASAP 08 na ti-yak na magpapakitang kani-lang ganda at galing. Pangungunahan nina Piolo Pascual at Claudine Bar-retto ang inyong mga paboritong artista tulad ng mga Star Magic Jewels (Tim Espinosa), Heartthrobs, Cover Boys, Koolchx, As-tigs at loveteams.

Mapapanood din ang mga artista ng Star magic na mga produkto ng mga sikat na re-ality shows ng ABS-CBN tulad ng Pinoy Big Brother (mula sa dalawang editions at mga Teens), White Castle, Be Bench, Del Monte’s Got 2 B Fit Challenge at Pinoy Dream Academy at marami pang iba!

Sa June 29, muling bababa ang mga bituin mula sa kalangitan sa 2nd Star Magic Grand Ball na gaganapin sa EDSA Shangri la Hotel. Matapos ang matagumpay na ball noong August nang nakaraang taon, mu-ling magtitipon ang pamilya ng Star Magic na ubod ng guguwapo at gaganda sa ka-ni-kanilang tuxedo at long gowns para isang gabi ng ma-sarap na pagkain, sayawan at kantahan.

Marami pang kaabang-abang na mangyayari mula sa Star Magic ngayong taon na ito.

Nariyan ang Batch 16, mga bagong mukha na ipapakilala sa 3rd quarter ng 2008, marami pang concerts at isang mala-king charity event ang nasa plano.

Inuumpisahan na rin ang pinakabagong Star Magic catalogue na nasa newsstands by October 2008.

Malayo na talaga ang na-rarating ng Star Magic mula ng simulan ito ng dating ABS-CBN President and Chief Operating Officer na si Freddie Garcia at Johnny Mana-han para magkaroon ng ex-clusive talents ang ABS-CBN. 1992 ang masasabing ma-gical year nang pasimulan ng ABS-CBN Talent Management and Development Center.

October noong taon ding ‘yun inilunsad ang show na Ang TV, ang hit afternoon show na pinagmulan ng maraming mall shows, live concerts at record albums.

Sa nasabing show din nakilala ang mga batang Claudine Barretto, Angelica Panganiban, Rica Peralejo, Kaye Abad, John Prats, Angelu de Leon, Victor Neri at marami pang iba.

November 1995 naman ini-launch ang Star Circle Batch 1 na pinangunahan ng namayapang ma-appeal at magaling na aktor na si Ri-co Yan.

16 years … 16 batches of stars … tiyak, nariyan pa rin ang ABS-CBN Star Magic sa mga susunod pang 16 years, at sabi nga: “The ma-gic ever continuous!”
